My entry for the December and final of 2004 EoMEoTE. I am not proud in any way of this effort but to quote a man who was quoting a man "Done today is better than perfection tomorrow!"

and the new day brings...

and the new day brings...

upload: tokyogoat.
Was greeted on the first day of my new year break with the first falling of snow in Tokyo this season. This pleases me greatly as numerous snow boarding trips have been planned. The next concern to turn my attention to is that a majority of those trips are planned for Nigata which was subject to yet another earthquake only yesterday. As properly pointed out to me, also yesterday, the earthquakes are not all over Nigata and people should check where the effected areas are, then show support by visitng the unaffeted areas and put an end to their serious tourism slump. But alas we are simple folk...Following that I turn my thoughts to the condition of my snowboard, which I will report fairly shortly. Powders up!!

Christmas 2004

Took a Cruise on Tokyo Bay on the evening of the 23rd as the main event for this Christmas. There are some other pics from this that I will touch-up and upload shortly. Have a good one and remember to call your Mum.

Last night Lily promised the world to many . Seduction by bright lights and furor. Most were seen leaving broken-hearted, desperately rummaging in their pockets for 380 yen, just 380 yen. Yoshinoya will fill that emptiness.

orange

upload: tokyogoat.
continuing on with the bike theme I was mildly impressed today whilst wondering about with the orange guard on this Suzuki 50cc billed as the cheapest scooter on the market. I believe when it was first released it was promoted using the Japanese talent/ model/ personality Rei Kikuchi. I was planning on linking her name but didn't want to lead others down the same evil path I just just ventured. anyways.

this is not particularly an unusual site. damaged scooters are often seen leaning against fences and rails on many a corner and like most things go pretty much unnoticed. Easily resisting the temptation to ponder: who was in the accident: wonder if everyone was ok: I post this cause the pic turned out well and I like the leaves building up.

yappari shouchu

upload: tokyogoat.
set about taking an old school nihonshou bottle photo here. nihonshou is the drink of the gods. clean and delicate but with resounding omnipotent power. (experienced by mere mortals only through the extent of the hangover). Alas, got home, called in the local who explained that the reason for the uneasiness I felt from the labels on these bottle is because they are shouchu. filthy.

going to have a shot at grainy B&W for awhile. got the B&W bug from some of the flickr kids. wish this camera went to ISO800+. alas might be tempted to run the pics through photoshop first. the other main reason for B&W is to spice up the evening journey home from work. traversing the same paths at the same time for months on end isn't conducive to interesting pics. naturally want to avoid standard salary man weekend foto material but will be a battle.

The dude wearing those shoes was one of the twitchiest people I have seen in awhile. That's saying alot when you consider I am in Tokyo where big city wretchedness abounds. Or he could've just been dying for a piss.

once again I traversed Higashi Ikebukuro's piss alley (..or one of). Sun was shining nicely so got this snap. We were off to some model rooms of a new building called Air Rise, also in Ikebukuro. Lovely Karin is taking serious steps toward the possible purchase of one of these apartments. I'll dig around and get some more info shortly. All very exciting and frightening at the same time.

fly be free

the blog is taking it's own shape so don't be surprised if it turns out to be a photolog... no longer will people be subjected to the cringe of impotent, ill-conceived attempts at witty commentry...no more wine-drenched, half finished or broken sentences....no more forced, descriptive prose on banal subject matter....no more pretentious repetition of fullstops/periods in an effort to interject unnecssary indecision or hesitation....NO MORE!....well no more after today, I promise.

it's that time of year again when Japan's marketteers take up the impossible challenge of creating something from nothing. So the tacky labels are once again slapped on bottles of the freshest of fresh. Images are added to the range of train carriage posters that jab you in the side of the head. This year sees Bic Camera, Yurakucho in on the act. Lots of hands reaching out but predictably few reaching into pockets..ahh...wallets. That was saved for later...

..what do I know

Sitting here, red wine in hand on a Wednesday night picking and scratching around the web, listening to Interpol's Turn on the Bright Lights. Really am enjoying it and I think that one of the reasons why is that it reminds me of Glide, especially some of the clean, choppy, chiming guitar bits that are held up by a wandering bass line that explode into soaring guitar riffs, a la track nine on Glide's Open Up and Croon. (catchy title eh). Even after the regrettable event in 1999 I still feel a sadness and disappointment at the thought of what could have been had William Arthur been able to find some kind sense of what lay before him by constructing a lingering chord as unique, beautiful and complex as he struck on his guitar that would resolve the everyday dissonance of his existence. Either that or in reality he was just a druggy fool. Only few will know, if any.
Translation (red wine dribble-> English)
Interpol reminds me of Glide
Glide was a good band.
The lead singer died of an overdose.
He was a good songwriter and played the guitar well.
He used alot of unique guitar chords.
I wish he could have learned to deal with his life and drug habit to the same extent that he learned to play the guitar.
Probably not many people will know what he was thinking around those times.
I feel sad and disappointed that Glide are not still playing.

Lunch

Lunch

upload: tokyogoat.
the weekend before pay day requires people to re-focus and to learn to apprecate simplicity. Now, in Japan, this is not only easy but can also be masked behind a pretense of exotic sophistcation. This is achieved because there are things like onigiri and and miso shiru (which I have never learnt to say correctly or with any confidence, often confusing it with "do the miso" or " white miso" or "do the water"). Anyways... lay these out on a nice nigiri rolling mat from the 100 yen shop along with 100 yen chopsticks and we have a dignified lunch. most expensive thing there are the hashi oki, which is a practical use of the world famous art form "Yosegi" . Well...world famous may be a stretch but I bet the Ginza Ladies know the magnitide of the word I drop here.
